Would You Benefit from Ptosis Repair?

Candidates for ptosis surgery should be in overall good health without any underlying medical conditions that could complicate the procedure or recovery process. You may benefit from the ptosis repair procedure if you experience one or more of the following concerns:

• Drooping eyelids
• Heavy under-eye bags
• Aged or tired appearance
• Asymmetrical eyes

At your initial consultation, Dr. Ghafouri will discuss your cosmetic concerns and assess your eyes to determine the right technique for your individual ptosis repair. He can also suggest additional procedures in combination with ptosis surgery to help you achieve the best possible results.

The Ptosis Repair Procedure

Ptosis repair surgery typically takes 30-60 minutes, depending on the severity of your condition and whether additional procedures are added. This procedure is performed under local anesthesia administered so you will be put in a twilight sleep without being fully sedated. During the procedure, Dr. Ghafouri will start by making a tiny incision in the upper eyelid to expose the levator muscle. Depending on whether the muscle is stretched or weakened, it will either be trimmed or tightened and then the incision is closed with dissolvable sutures.

Ptosis Repair Recovery

Mild to moderate swelling and bruising are common for the first few days after surgery. Lubricating eye drops will be provided to prevent dry eye and prescription pain medication can be prescribed if you still have discomfort after taking over-the-counter medication. Most patients can return to work about 3-5 days more strenuous exercise should be avoided for about two weeks. Patients should also refrain from wearing contacts for 2-3 weeks. It can take a few weeks for all of the swelling to subside but once your results have developed, you can expect your youthful appearance and rejuvenated look to last permanently or for many years.
