Laser Skin Rejuvenation in Scottsdale
Also Serving Patients in Phoenix & Mesa
Laser facial rejuvenation, or laser skin resurfacing, is a minimally invasive skin treatment that addresses aging skin and skin damaged by sun exposure, acne and other factors. The treatment uses focused laser light to remove the damaged top layer of the skin while at the same time promoting new skin growth by stimulating collagen production. The result is glowing skin and a face that looks years younger and healthier than ever. At Arizona Oculoplastic Specialists, Dr. Ali Ghafouri offers this treatment as an alternative to more invasive surgical procedures, allowing patients to have soft, supple skin and diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles without going under the knife. Types of Laser Skin Treatments
At Arizona Oculoplastic Specialists, we offer the most advanced, proven laser skin resurfacing treatments available, including Sciton ProFractional Laser Resurfacing and Sciton Contour TRL (Tunable Resurfacing Laser). Find out more about both treatments here, including what to expect during and after each treatment.
Sciton® ProFractional Laser Resurfacing
ProFractional, Sciton’s ProFractional laser resurfacing treatment, provides excellent results while requiring only minimal downtime. While full skin resurfacing treatments remove the entire surface of the treatment area, the ProFractional treatment removes just a fraction of the skin during the treatment. While collectively you appear “treated” and may experience redness and some swelling over the entire area, only about 20-30 percent of the skin is actually ablated (or removed) with each treatment. After a series of four to six treatments, we can achieve 100 percent resurfacing of the skin, or more, but without all of the downtime associated with traditional resurfacing. ProFractional treatments target deeper skin concerns such as scarring, wrinkles and stretch marks. A topical numbing agent is applied to the skin for one hour prior to treatment. During the procedure a cool air is applied to the skin to help alleviate any discomfort. After the procedure, you may want to restrict social activities for about three to five days as your skin heals and recovers.
Sciton Contour TRL™
The Contour TRL (Tunable Resurfacing Laser) offers two treatment options:
MicroLaserPeel® is a shallow resurfacing treatment that can be a great starting point for patients who are considering laser treatments. This procedure lightly vaporizes, or removes, the surface layer of the skin. About three to five days later this treated and damaged skin peels away. Once the treated skin peels away or falls off, new skin is revealed that is smoother, softer and more even. This procedure is extremely tolerable but you may want to restrict social activities for the first few days after treatment. This particular treatment is not recommended for patients who have darker skin types or suffer from melasma.
Deep Skin Resurfacing
Deep skin resurfacing is only administered by a physician, due to the depth and severity of the procedure. This is typically a one-time treatment that targets deeper lines and wrinkles in the tissue, and may even provide subtle tightening of the skin. Sciton’s TRL technology differs from traditional laser resurfacing because it couples ablation (removal) and coagulation (heating). We are able to removed damaged, aged skin and use heat to firm and tighten tissue where it has become lax. You can anticipate being in the office for about two hours when having this procedure, as it requires topical numbing and numbing injections by the physician. You will need to plan for 10 to 14 days of downtime, and can expect to have severe swelling, redness, bleeding, oozing and crusting as the skin heals from this procedure. Once the skin has healed, it may have a slight pink appearance for up to six weeks post-treatment.
How long does a laser facial rejuvenation treatment take?
Typically one to two hours, depending on the treatment.
Is laser facial rejuvenation painful?
Depending on the treatment type, a topical numbing agent may be applied to the treatment area. In addition, numbing injections and/or cool air is applied during treatment in order to ensure that the patient is kept as comfortable as possible during treatment.
What type of anesthesia is used for a laser facial rejuvenation treatment?
A topical anesthetic agent is used to numb the treatment area. Numbing injections may also be used.
After treatment, how long will skin redness last?
The majority of the skin redness will disappear within the first few days, at which point most patients feel comfortable returning to work and socializing. The skin may still appear slightly pink for a week or more afterwards, but this effect is easily concealed with makeup.
How long will my results last?
The laser facial rejuvenation treatment has long-term benefits, as it allows for a new, healthier level of skin to be exposed. However, this new skin is still susceptible to the effects of aging, sun exposure and skin problems. Nonetheless, the effects of a treatment can often last up to seven years, depending on the conditions being treated.
Are there any risks associated with this treatment?
As this is a minimally invasive treatment that doesn’t require incisions, risks are minimal and rare, and include the risk of a skin or bacterial infection.
Why should I have my laser facial rejuvenation treatment at Arizona Oculoplastic specialists?
Though the treatment is minimally invasive, it is still a medical procedure requiring the knowledge and precision of experienced staff whose expertise includes the safe and effective use of the most advanced laser technology.
