What is Male Blepharoplasty?

The Male Blepharoplasty Procedure

Male blepharoplasty can be performed as upper eyelid surgery (upper blepharoplasty), lower eyelid surgery (lower blepharoplasty), or a combined surgery for the upper and lower eyelids. For the upper lids, an incision is made in the natural crease of the eye, and excess skin and fat are removed. The remaining skin will be tightly sutured in place with dissolvable sutures to smooth the upper eyelids. Similarly, an incision is made along the lower lash line to remove excess skin and tighten the eyelid muscles. The procedure takes about 1-2 hours and is performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia.

Male Blepharoplasty Recovery

Male blepharoplasty is considered a minimally invasive procedure so there is a relatively short recovery period. Patients often take one week off work and during this time, it is important to rest as much as possible. Strenuous exercise and direct heat (sun exposure and saunas) should be avoided for about 10-14 days. Almost all the swelling and bruising will subside after two weeks.
