Simultaneously improve skin texture and discoloration.
What is Total FX?
Total FX is a CO2 laser skin resurfacing technology that combines Active FX with Deep FX to simultaneously treat the deep dermal layers of the skin and the superficial layers. This is an ablative fractional laser treatment, meaning superficial layers of the skin evaporated (ablated) by Active FX while the deep layers by fine laser beams of Deep FX resulting in tightening of skin. The newly refined skin is smoother, tighter, with improved tone and texture. Resurfacing addresses acne scars, sun damage, wrinkles, and overall dull skin.
Laser-generated heat also stimulates collagen production to improve volume loss, skin elasticity, and other signs of aging caused by the natural loss of collagen and elastin, two essential proteins in the skin. With Total FX laser rejuvenation, patients can enjoy significant improvements in visible signs of aging as well as the skin’s overall texture and tone.
Would You Benefit from Total FX?
Patients who are concerned with both surface imperfections and deeper skin conditions like wrinkles or scarring can benefit from Total FX. The laser comes with customizable settings to target the face, chest, and neck. Skin conditions that can be treated include:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Deep wrinkles and facial folds
- Rough skin texture
- Mild to moderate skin laxity
- Acne scars and burn scars
At Arizona Oculoplastic Specialists, we are pleased to offer a wide variety of lasers and other aesthetic treatments. Dr. Ghafouri will help you determine whether Total FX or another procedure is the best choice for your individual treatment goals and skin concerns.
The Total FX Procedure
At the start of your Total FX laser treatment, your skin will be cleansed in preparation of the laser treatment. There are a few applications used to provide patient comfort during the procedure. If the laser treatment is being done in conjunction with a surgical procedure, light sedation is used as well as a nerve block. If laser resurfacing is being done as a stand-alone treatment, topical numbing and a nerve block is used to ensure the patient is comfortable during their session. The provider will make several passes over the skin to achieve the desired amount of ablation. The entire laser resurfacing treatment will take approximately one hour.
Total FX Recovery
After a laser skin resurfacing treatment, the skin will be very red and feel like a bad sunburn for the first 24 hours. The skin will then form crusting similar to a scab and will have a bronzed appearance. Vinegar soaks are recommended during the recovery. The crusting will gradually and naturally begin to shed revealing beautiful baby fresh skin underneath. Plan on 7 days of active healing and 10 days of social downtime. After the crusting has fully exfoliated, the skin will be pink. Makeup may be worn at this point. Sunblock should be worn every day and direct sun exposure should be avoided for 30 days following laser resurfacing. You may resume your normal physical activities 14 days after your resurfacing. Final results can be seen in about 3-5 months.
