Specially formulated peels to rejuvenate radiant skin.
What Are Chemical Peels?
Chemical peels use a medical grade customized blend of chemical solutions to exfoliate dead skin cells from the skin’s surface reviling the bright, healthy, new skin beneath. Chemical peels range from mild to deep peels, depending on the level of skin they penetrate. Stronger peels also
encourage cell turnover and collagen production in the deep layers of the skin to target more severe conditions and achieve more dramatic skin correction.
Types of Chemical Peels
We offer many different types of chemical peels that can be customized for your individual treatment needs:
ZO Stimulator Peel
The ZO Stimulator Peel is sometimes referred to as a “Red Carpet Peel” or “lunchtime peel” because it refreshes the skin with no downtime. Skin will appear to have a “filtered” appearance. This is a light chemical peel made with salicylic acid, lactic acid, and a blend of citric acids that exfoliate the skin and refresh a glowing complexion. The blend of chemicals mildly exfoliate the skin and stimulate collagen and elastin production for immediate glowing skin.
PCA Peels
PCA peels come in light-medium depth peels using the PCA Advanced Skin Care System®. We offer the gentle Sensi Peel for sensitive skin, the Ultra Peel to target signs of aging, and modified Jessner Peels with or without hydroquinone for patients who have an allergy. You can also customize a TCA peel with combinations of glycolic acid, kojic acid, azelaic acid, salicylic acid, and more.
ZO Step 3 Peel
The ZO Step 3 Peel is a powerful skin rejuvenating treatment that starts in our office and is completed at home. In our office, a peel solution with lactic acid, salicylic acid, and TCA (trichloroacetic acid) will be applied to the skin followed by a retinol crème that can penetrate deeply into your newly exfoliated skin. You will be given a Calming Crème for at-home use to continue the process of collagen stimulation and hyaluronic acid production. An added benefit of this peel is that it can be used to treat sun damage and signs of aging on the face, neck, chest, arms, and legs.
Apeele Chemical Peels
Apeele offers light, medium, and deep chemical peels to exfoliate the superficial layers of the skin and encourage cell turnover in the deeper layers. These peels can be customized for all skin types and a variety of skin concerns. For deeper peels or full-face treatment, a topical numbing cream will be applied to keep you comfortable. Apeele solutions can be applied to the face, neck, and hands.
Would You Benefit from Chemical Peels?
With so many options available, almost anyone can benefit from a chemical peel! It’s important to consider any allergies you might have so that the right peel is used. Additionally, certain acne medications can interact negatively with certain chemical peel solutions.
Depending on the peel you receive, the following conditions can be treated:
- Uneven skin tone and texture
- Hyperpigmentation and skin discoloration
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Mild skin laxity
- Acne scars
At your consultation, Dr. Ghafouri will discuss your medical history and treatment goals to determine the best choice of chemical peel. Each peel will be discussed in greater detail, and we will be happy to answer any questions you might have so that you can be fully prepared for treatment.
The Chemical Peel Procedure
Chemical peel treatment takes about 30 minutes, but the specific time will vary depending on your chosen peel. The chemical solution will be applied to your skin in a thin layer and left to sit for a few minutes. Once the peel has done its job, your face will be cleansed and moisturized, and you are free to continue with your daily activities.
Chemical Peel Recovery
Recovery time varies depending on the strength of your chemical peel. Light/superficial peels will result in minimal downtime, if any, while medium peels can take a week or more to finish peeling. Deep peels resurface multiple layers of skin and require about two weeks of recovery. In general, peeling will worsen 1-3 days after treatment and you might have mild swelling and redness. The newly resurfaced layers of skin will be sensitive so it is important to regularly apply moisturizer, use broad-spectrum sunscreen to avoid sun exposure, and wait to wear makeup until your skin has finished peeling. Dr. Ghafouri will give you a more detailed list of post-care instructions specific to the peel you receive.
