Entropion is a form of eyelid malposition that causes the eyelids to face inward. This causes the eyelashes to rub against the cornea, which can irritate or inflame the eye. There are several different types of entropion, the most common being involutional lower eyelid entropion.
Excessive tearing or watery eyes is a condition called epiphora. Our eyes produce tears to lubricate and naturally protect our eyes from debris. Improper drainage can cause severe irritation, blurred vision, redness, and burning, and can cause more serious long-term issues.
Obstruction of Tear Drainage
If the tear ducts are obstructed, you could have excessive tearing to the point of tears running down your cheeks and interfering with vision. If left untreated, an infection in the lacrimal sac can occur; this infection is called dacryocystitis.
Eyelid & Facial Skin Cancer
Skin cancer is one of the most common types of cancer and it often affects areas like the face that are frequently exposed to the sun and its damaging UV rays. Sun exposure damages cellular DNA and breaks down healthy skin cells, resulting in a growing mass of cancerous tissues.
Eyelid retraction occurs when the eyelids are pulled away from the eye, exposing the white part of the eyeball. Cases can range in severity, with mild cases causing an irritating gritty feeling in the eye to more severe cases that interfere with the eyelid’s ability to close properly.
Drooping upper eyelids, caused by weakened eyelid muscles, not only give a person an aged, tired appearance but also interfere with vision. In eyelid ptosis, the upper eyelid margin (the edge of the eyelid) falls below its normal level and blocks the field of vision. The eyelid may encroach or cover the pupil.
