Full Under-Eyes for youthful rejuvenation

What is Under-Eye Filler?

Are you tired of looking tired? Many patients suffer from hollowed-under eyes or bags, sagging skin, and fine lines and wrinkles as a result of genetics, aging, and other causes. This gives an appearance of looking tired.  Eyelid surgery (Blepharoplasty) has been the go-to solution to this concern, but some younger patients often find their concerns are not dramatic enough to require surgery.

Fortunately, under-eye dermal filler treatments are a revolutionary non-invasive solution specifically designed for this very reason. If you’ve been searching for a means to improve your under-eye appearance, at Arizona Oculoplastic Specialists, our board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr Ghafouri, will provide safe and effective under-eye filler treatments to rejuvenate, restore, and refresh your look.

Under-eye filler, or deep tear trough filler, is a minimally invasive cosmetic injection that addresses hollows or contour deformity at the eyelid cheek junction. The active ingredient, hyaluronic acid, is a formulated gel substance that provides fullness to the under-eye and restores volume. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance within the eye and joints and utilizing it in cosmetic practice can significantly improve volume loss and skin laxity.

Generally, patients for under-eye hyaluronic acid filler injections must meet the following criteria:

  • Do not have large under-eye fatty deposits (“eye bags”).
  • Do not have significant dark circles.
  • Do have sunken or hollowed under-eyes.
  • Do not have severe tear trough deformity
  • Do have realistic expectations.
  • Are in good health.
  • Have only mild skin laxity such as crow’s feet

The following individuals are not good candidates for under-eye fillers.

  • History of allergies.
  • Chronic under-eye or cheek swelling (festoons).
  • History of thyroid eye disease
  • Significant skin laxity.
  • History of adverse reaction to fillers.
  • Large herniated fat pads (“eye bags”).

The Under-Eye Dermal Filler Process

At Arizona Oculoplastic Specialists, our team of skilled medical professionals begin every cosmetic treatment with a consultation during which we will get an understanding of your concerns and tailor your eye filler injection treatment plan accordingly. The actual procedure is less than 30 minutes long. First, a topical numbing cream is applied to the under-eye area. Ice is also applied to the area to help with any discomfort and reduce bruising near the injection site. Typically, a blunt cannula is used to meticulously place small amounts of the filler in the pre-marked areas. Aftercare instructions will be given.

Tear Trough Filler Recovery

Recovery after tear trough filler treatment is typically quick, with most patients returning to their normal routine the same day. Mild swelling, bruising, tenderness, or redness around the injection site in the under-eye area is common and generally resolves within several days. Applying an ice pack during the first 24 hours and avoiding strenuous exercise, excessive heat, and alcohol can help minimize swelling and support the healing process. Because the tear trough area contains delicate blood vessels, it is important to closely follow your provider’s aftercare instructions and avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area unless directed otherwise.

Your provider may schedule a follow-up appointment to evaluate your results and determine whether any additional treatment is needed. While patients often notice an immediate improvement in under-eye hollows, deep hollows, and tired-looking eyes, the final results become more apparent as swelling subsides over the following one to two weeks, revealing smoother, refreshed under-eyes with natural-looking results.
