Summer Tips to Preserve the Beauty of Your Eyes

Summer tips for beautiful eyes

Your eyes are one of the first things others notice about you and during the summer, they’re on full display thanks to an uptick in parties, barbecues and other social events. Keep your eyes looking radiant and youthful all summer long with these essential tips from Arizona oculoplastic surgeon Dr. Ali Ghafouri.

Wear Sunglasses

Sun protection is crucial for healthy, young-looking skin. The sun’s UV rays can rob the skin of its youthful appearance and cause permanent damage. The delicate skin around the eyes is at heightened risk of sun damage in the form of unsightly wrinkles and age spots around the eyes. The easiest way to protect the eyes from sun is by wearing sunglasses. Wraparound, broad-brimmed sunglasses that offer 100 percent UV protection are the best option.

Apply Sunscreen

Sunscreen is another important form of defense against sun damage. Broad spectrum SPF 30 or higher protects the skin from both UVA (responsible for signs of premature aging such as wrinkles) and UVB (responsible for sunburns) rays. Be sure to apply sunscreen whenever outdoors, including during cloudy weather.

Use the Right Moisturizer

A moisturizer with the right ingredients can do wonders to your skin. A light, oil-free moisturizer formula is especially beneficial during hot, humid weather as it hydrates the skin without clogging the pores. Be sure to moisturize after showering and spending prolonged time outdoors. If you need help choosing a moisturizer, Kimberly, Arizona Oculoplastic Specialists’ resident aesthetician, can recommend one that is best for your skin care needs.

Get a Good Night’s Rest

It may sound cliché, but getting a sufficient amount of sleep each night really can keep the eyes looking young and vibrant. Your body produces collagen (a protein responsible for keeping the skin firm and elastic) while asleep and sleep also reduces the appearance of puffy, under-eye bags.

Drink Water

Drinking at least 8 ounces of water each day can also keep the skin around the eyes looking young. It is also a good idea to limit drinks that dehydrate you, including alcohol and caffeine.

Try a Skin Care Treatment

Sometimes even the best skin care regimen isn’t enough to achieve beautiful eyes. Dr. Ghafouri offers a wide range of skin care treatments for pesky wrinkles, lines, and/or puffy under-eye bags. From facials to laser skin resurfacing, our skin care treatments are tailored to address each patient’s unique aesthetic concerns and goals. Dr. Ghafouri also offers eyelid surgery in Scottsdale & Phoenix. To learn more about these treatments, please contact Arizona Oculoplastic Specialists at (480) 905-1010.
