What are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are an increasingly popular non-surgical alternative to facial rejuvenation surgeries that diminish the fine lines and wrinkles that can form on the face over time.
As we age, our skin produces less collagen and elastin, which are proteins that give the skin a plump, youthful appearance. Over time, this loss of essential skin proteins results in less skin laxity, and the skin starts to sag and droop, often making a person look years older and worn out. When performed in an experienced practice like ours in Mesa and Scottsdale, the dermal fillers give a natural 3-dimensional lift.
The dermal fillers offered at Arizona Oculoplastic Specialists are all FDA-approved, safe and effective for filling in wrinkles and hollowed-out areas on the face.

The Types of Dermal Fillers We Offer
What is Juvéderm?
The Juvéderm family of dermal fillers is comprised of hyaluronic acid, a sugar found naturally in your body that diminishes with age. Hyaluronic acid binds to moisture and is heavily concentrated in your joints, eyes and skin tissues. Dermal fillers with hyaluronic acid gel are ideal for addressing moderate to severe lines, wrinkles and folds. Hyaluronic acid works with the water molecules in the skin, adding volume to smooth out wrinkles. Juvéderm is FDA-approved, safe and effective for all skin tones, and results often last up to a full year after just one treatment.
Juvéderm Voluma XC
Juvéderm Voluma is FDA approved for injection into the deep tissues in the cheeks, which can restore lost volume, and injection into the chin to augment the chin region for more projection. Voluma is made with hyaluronic acid, and this filler is designed to add a youthful, supple profile in the mid-face area, correcting the hollowed look that can occur due to aging. As you get older, facial fat deposits shrink and sink lower in the face, creating a gaunt appearance, especially in the cheeks. If you have acne scarring in your cheeks, Voluma may improve its appearance by filling in skin depressions and adding volume. Results of treatment can last up to two years.
Juvéderm Volbella XC
Juvéderm Volbella XC is another hyaluronic acid filler in the Juvéderm product line. Volbella is designed to enhance lip size and correct lines around the lips. Whether you wish for more voluminous lips or have experienced thinning lips with age, Volbella is an excellent option for lip augmentation. Perioral lines are wrinkles that spread from the borders of your lips, and Volbella can smoothen these lip lines and address hollows in the under-eye region.
What is Restylane?
Restylane is another dermal filler family made with hyaluronic acid gel. This injectable is typically used for moderate to severe lines and wrinkles found around the nose and mouth and can add volume to the cheek area. The original Restylane and Restylane-L fillers improve wrinkles and folds in the mid-to-deep facial tissues. Restylane is FDA-approved, and results typically last about eight months.
Restylane Silk
Restylane Silk adds volume to lips for a natural-looking pillowy appearance. This smooth filler is also used to minimize the appearance of fine lines around the mouth (perioral lines, often called “smoker’s lines”) and under-eye hollows. As you get older, hollowing happens in the eye area due to fat pockets descending, creating a deep crease between the upper cheek and lower eyelids called tear troughs. Restylane Silk offers lip augmentation and reduced tear troughs.
Restylane Lyft with Lidocaine
Restylane Lyft offers improvement for moderate to severe nasolabial folds and other facial wrinkles and cheek augmentation. This variation of the Restylane line is injected into the deep tissues for optimal results. It can be used for hand rejuvenation to improve age-related volume loss.
Restylane Kysse
Restylane Kysse enhances lip volume and corrects perioral lines above the upper lip. You can achieve plump, luscious lips or restore a youthful lip contour with Restylane Kysse.
Restylane Defyne and Restylane Refyne
Restylane Defyne addresses the mid-face and works in the deeper skin tissues for more dramatic results. This injectable is used for deep facial folds, such as those around the nose (nasolabial folds) and chin augmentation to improve projection. Restylane Refyne also offers mid-to-deep tissue correction for the mid-face.
What is Radiesse?
Radiesse is made with calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA). This mineral-like substance is found in bones but biosynthetically produced to make Radiesse. The dermal filler does not use animal products, which has a lower risk of allergic reaction than other injectables. The calcium microspheres work to stimulate collagen production in the deep skin tissues upon injection. Most often used to smooth out deep lines and wrinkles around the nose and mouth, Radiesse is also used to add volume to the mid-face area. Typical results last anywhere from nine months to one full year.
What is Revanesse Versa?
Revanesse Versa is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler for lip augmentation. Loss of lip volume is a normal part of aging as collagen and elastin production slows down starting in your 20s. Revanesse Versa can enhance your lip size and restore youthful, plump lips in patients 22 and older.
What is Belotero?
Belotero is made with hyaluronic acid to bind with the moisture in your skin. This dermal filler smoothens lines and wrinkles that are moderate to severe, namely the nasolabial folds that stretch from the sides of your nose down to your mouth. Belotero results may last six months and require maintenance results to keep your youthful complexion.
What is Sculptra?
Sculptra is made with poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) and works differently than other dermal fillers. The PLLA has been used as a suture material for decades and promotes your body’s natural healing process to stimulate collagen production. Sculptra is used in the mid-face and lower regions of the face to fill in lines, enhance lips and address deep nasolabial folds. Unlike other injectables, Sculptra results take time, gradually reducing signs of aging and restoring volume for a discreet yet dramatic improvement that is considered semi-permanent.
What is Bellafill?
Bellafill is considered another semi-permanent dermal filler. Made with polymethyl-methacrylate microspheres (PMMA), Bellafill is used to address signs of aging in mid-to-deep skin tissues, especially around the nose and mouth. This injectable can improve thin lips and address pitted facial scarring. Bellafill results can take several months to settle.
What is RHA?
RHA is the first-ever dermal filler approved to treat dynamic wrinkles and folds. Dynamic wrinkles are formed from decades of repeated muscle movements and typically develop in the forehead, between the brows and around your eyes. RHA is made with hyaluronic acid and can smoothen lines and folds caused by years of laughing, frowning, squinting and other facial expressions.
