Thin Lips in Phoenix

Lip Enhancement PhoenixIf you have always envied the full, pillowy lips of celebrities and your friends, you may want to try cosmetic treatments that can augment your lips. Dr. Ali Ghafouri, a facial and oculoplastic surgeon in Scottsdale, AZ, provides surgical and non-surgical treatments at his practice. He has delegated a team of Nurse Aesthetic Specialists who provide these non-surgical treatments for patients to thicken the lips for a plumper, attractive and more youthful appearance.

Reasons Why You May Have Thin Lips

If you have had thin lips your entire life, your lip size is most likely due to genetics. However, if you once enjoyed fuller lips but now notice that your lips have become gradually thinner, this is a common side effect of getting older. Your aging body naturally decreases its production of collagen, a protein that volumizes the skin, and hyaluronic acid, which keeps skin volumized with moisture. As a result, areas like your cheeks and lips lose their fullness. Fortunately, Dr. Ghafouri and his providers can treat both lips that started thin and those that became thin over time.

Non-Surgical Treatment for Thin Lips

By far, the most popular treatment for thin lips is dermal filler. This is an injectable treatment that can add volume to targeted areas, including the lips. Fillers can also be used to diminish fine lines and wrinkles immediately surrounding the lips. The entire treatment is brief and relatively painless. Because injectable treatments do not require downtime, you can resume almost normal activities as soon as you leave Dr. Ghafouri’s care.

Some of the fillers Dr. Ghafouri uses to augment the lips include:

Juvéderm Volbella XC

Volbella uses a hyaluronic acid gel to add smooth fullness to thin lips. It usually lasts longer than other types of filler, with some patients seeing results for up to 18 months.

Restylane

Two other hyaluronic acid fillers in the Restylane family — Restylane Silk and Restylane Kysse — are appropriate for lip augmentation. Restylane Silk is known for a more subtle transformation. While Restylane Kysse provides the most volume by adding kissable plumpness to the lips.  The cohesiveness of the product allows for more natural lip animation and movement. Both treatments last between six months and one year.

Revanesse Versa

Revanesse Versa uses hyaluronic acid to re-volumize lips that have thinned due to collagen loss as part of the aging process. It has a higher concentration than other injectables, making it also appropriate for moderate to severe lines on the face.

Surgical Treatment for Thin Lips

Fat Grafting Phoenix If you would prefer a longer-lasting treatment for thin lips, Dr. Ghafouri offers a couple of surgical solutions:

Lip Lift

With lip lift, Dr. Ghafouri shortens the distance between the nose and the upper lip by removing a small amount of skin from this area. When the lip is rotated upward, more of your lip is exposed, giving it a more feminine and youthful appearance. This surgery also enhances the cupid’s bow (the double curvature at the top center of the lip) and helps showcase your teeth while smiling.

Fat Grafting

Here, Dr. Ghafouri harvests surplus fat cells from another area of the body and purifies them so they can be safely injected into the lips. Because the body recognizes its own fat cells, most of the cells survive the facial fat grafting transfer process this keeps the lips augmented indefinitely.

Although both of these procedures are less invasive than other types of plastic surgeries, they do still require a week or more of downtime.
